In America massage is lumped into the category “alternative medicine.” But in ancient times, experts believe it was common healing practice. Massages as a form of healing have been around since about 500 years before the birth of Christ, but the medical theories at that time (like some present Eastern practices) seemed more holistic, combining the physical, spiritual, and the mental.
Swedish massage is foundational for most Western massage therapy, which is based upon Euro-American medical knowledge of human physiology. The Swedish massage was developed in the latter 18th century by Per Henrik Ling, a Swedish native whose innovative physical therapy was introduced to America in the mid-19th century. This technique uses light strokes with light to medium pressure to effectively ease muscle tension and stress. The technique is designed to effectually encourage blood flow (therefore, oxygen flow) and allow the release endorphins.
When a client walks into Sean’s Massage Center for a Swedish massage, he or she is immersed into an atmosphere that encourages relaxation and healing. Our practitioners massage our clients with natural Aveda oil on a warmed table with soothing music playing in the background to further advance the ambience. Some of the center’s members have developed friendships with the practitioners, who already know some the problems the clients deal with. New faces are always welcome of course to come in, share, and be treated by a professional.
