The inter-connectivity of the body is one of the things that makes massage therapy an excellent form of alternative physical health maintenance and healing. A specialist learns the various “pressure points” that when stimulated can have positive effects in another part of the body.
However, that inter connectivity has a dark side. If a part of the human musculature becomes injured or over stressed, it can become a trigger point which leads to discomfort in other parts of the body; this is called referred pain. For instance, it’s not uncommon for a muscle constriction in your back or shoulder to trigger a shooting pain in your arm or to cause a headache.
The massage professionals at Sean’s Massage Center are trained in Myofascial Therapy, which focuses on muscle tissue and includes trigger-point massage therapy. Their accumulated training and experience allows them to work with clients suffering from the effects of trigger points.
The clients at Sean’s Massage Center are immersed into an atmosphere of healing and comfort the moment they enter the clinic. Before the actual trigger-point therapy begins, soothing music is played overhead to encourage the ambience of relaxation as you lay down on one of our warmed massage tables. Then we begin by gently rubbing a therapeutic blend of Aveda oils onto your skin to further aid in the relaxation.
When the professionals at Sean’s Massage Center apply trigger point therapy, they focus on the cause. One common technique is applying pressure to the knotted muscle directly, kneading the affected are with their fingers. On the other hand, the massage specialist might create the rubbing motion using an object, like a tennis ball or a bulbous cup (another massage technique called cupping).
The overall purpose is to increase the blood flow to the affected area, relaxing the knotted (constricted) muscle tissue. Often, a single session will relieve the problem; sometimes multiple sessions are required.
