The discomfort brought on by a woman’s natural cycle can be relieved through massage therapy and other alternative healing techniques. Sean’s Massage Center in the Central Ohio area has worked with many women to help relieve the annoying menstrual cramps. Sean offers a variety of variety of methods to help ease the discomfort.

Treating Menstrual Discomfort services

Menstrual cramps – also called dysmenorrhea, or period pains – are caused when a woman’s uterus periodically contracts, cutting off the flow of blood in the tissue. Massage therapy and other forms of alternative medical treatments when administered tends to relax the muscles in that region thus returning blood flow to normal.

Treating period pains at Sean’s Massage Center

The staff at Sean’s Massage Center create an atmosphere of calm and relaxation to help enhance the healing process with a heated massage table, Aveda oils, and soothing music.

Some of the techniques used in treating period pains include Swedish massage therapy, reflexology, deep tissue massage and more. The Swedish massage is a full body massage that uses light to medium pressure on select areas. Deep Tissue Massage applies brisk, firm pressure to stimulate the tissue at a deeper level than other methods.

  • Reflexology has proven to be a reliable remedy for menstrual. Reflexology focuses is placed on stimulating certain “nerve zones” (pressure points) in the hands and especially the feet. Experts say that every bodily region or function is “wired up” to your feet – and some to the hand. Massaging the right location can help relieve menstrual cramps.
  • Cupping” is another specialized massage technique offered at Sean’s Massage Center where small bulbous cups are passed across the client’s body to create a mild suction thus stimulating the subdermal blood flow. This method, if used correctly, will relax the muscle surrounding a woman’s uterus and restore her natural flow.

Other treatments for period pain

Acupuncture has been an effective treatment practiced by Eastern healers for centuries in relieving the discomfort caused by dysmenorrhea and a host of other maladies. The staff at Sean’s Massage Center are adept in this ancient science that has been approved by most medical professionals in the Western world. Using tiny needles, this technique stimulates natural pressure points on the human body – called “acupoints.” Studies have shown that clients sometimes feel a slight prick, or nothing at all, when undergoing treatment.

The heated stone therapy works to relax muscles with warmed and oiled stones (sometimes coordinated with cooler stones) placed along the targeted area to relax the client on a deep level. It has been found effective in relieving menstrual cramps and other problems like stress, anxiety, and detoxifying the body. In treating dysmenorrhea, this technique relaxes the tissue around the uterus which are blocking blood flow.
